(Senior) Software Engineer – Data2Evidence

Join the forefront of open-source health data innovation as a software engineer for the Data2Evidence platform.

We are seeking a passionate and skilled software engineer to contribute to the Data2Evidence (D2E) platform (https://github.com/OHDSI/Data2Evidence), an open source, end-to-end solution for the management and analysis of health data. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) community and contribute to a platform that is transforming how researchers globally access and utilize health data for evidence generation.

The D2E platform is built on the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM), providing an integrated environment for data ingestion, quality control, cohort building, and analysis. As a software engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the platform’s capabilities, improving user experience, and driving its adoption within the research community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Full-Stack Development: Design, develop, and maintain features across the entire D2E platform, including the front-end user interface, back-end services, and/or data processing pipelines.
  • Open-Source Collaboration: Actively participate in the OHDSI open-source community. This includes reviewing code, addressing issues, and collaborating with developers and researchers outside of Data4Life.
  • Upstream Contributions: Actively contribute to the development of other third-party open-source projects and libraries that are integrated into and utilized by the Data2Evidence platform.
  • Technical Innovation: Contribute to the architectural evolution of the platform, incorporating new technologies and methodologies to enhance its scalability, performance, and usability.
  • User Enablement: Drive user success through robust testing, clear documentation and direct community support.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in full-stack development.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of modern web frameworks like React or Vue.
  • Experience with back-end development.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and package management with npm.
  • A solid grasp of relational databases and SQL.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for collaboration and open-source development.
  • Fluency in English.
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience is preferred, but fresh graduates are also encouraged to apply.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with the OMOP Common Data Model and OHDSI tools (e.g., ATLAS).
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) and medical terminologies (e.g., SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm).
  • Familiarity with data warehousing and ETL processes.
  • Contributions to other open-source projects.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
