About the role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Accountant to join our Auckland team. Reporting to the CFO, you’ll lead a small finance team while delivering accurate financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis that supports organisational performance and informed decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who combines strong technical accounting expertise with leadership capability and a strategic mindset and is not afraid to roll their sleeves up and get amongst! You’ll play a key role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting organisational growth, and contributing to meaningful outcomes for the communities we serve.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Financial Leadership & Reporting

  • Prepare and present monthly management reports, financial statements, profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and forecasts.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and monthly forecasting processes.
  • Provide insightful financial analysis to support organisational objectives and business performance.
  • Assist the CFO with audits, month-end reporting, annual accounts, budgeting, and strategic financial projects.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Finance Administrators.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and inclusive team culture.
  • Manage team performance, capability development, and succession planning.
  • Allocate resources and workloads to ensure key finance deliverables are completed accurately and on time.

Financial Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, banking reconciliations, and financial controls.
  • Ensure GST, PAYE, and RWT obligations are accurately prepared and submitted.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial information in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Support continuous improvement of finance processes and systems.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Degree qualified in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years’ accounting experience, including reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and motivate teams.
  • Strong financial reporting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Xero (preferred) and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to perform well under pressure.

Desirable Experience

  • Commitment to Kaupapa Māori values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Te Reo Māori and/or Pasifika language skills.
  • Social services, community, or not-for-profit sector experience.
