  • We are seeking an experienced A or B Grade Quarry Manager to lead our extractives operation.
  • Our operations include:
  • • Pit extraction and consented clean fill backfilling
  • • Riverbed aggregate extraction
  • • Mobile crushing and screening operations supplying high-quality aggregate products to our civil construction projects and external customers
  • You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our operations continue to meet the highest standards of safety, production, environmental stewardship and customer service.
  • About the Role
  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, this is a sole-charge leadership role with responsibility for providing operational oversight and statutory compliance across Taggart’s extractives operation. You will lead quarry operations spanning three sites, including pit extraction and clean fill backfilling, riverbed aggregate extraction, and mobile crushing and screening operations, while ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, production and asset management.
  • This is a highly autonomous role that offers the opportunity to influence operational performance, drive continuous improvement and contribute to the long-term success of a growing business.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • • Provide leadership across three quarry and extractive operations.
  • • Manage pit extraction, riverbed extraction and cleanfill backfilling activities.
  • • Oversee crushing and screening operations to achieve production and quality targets.
  • • Lead all health, safety and environmental systems, including toolbox meetings, hazard management and incident investigations.
  • • Ensure compliance with quarry legislation, resource consents, environmental obligations and industry best practice.
  • • Plan and coordinate maintenance of fixed and mobile plant, crushing and screening equipment.
  • • Lead, mentor and develop a team of operators and support staff.
  • • Monitor production, stock levels, fuel usage and operational performance.
  • • Prepare operational reports and contribute to budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning.
  • • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and internal project teams.
  • • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and operational performance across the business.

  • Essential Requirements
  • • Current A or B Grade Quarry Manager’s Certificate.
  • • Minimum five years’ experience within the quarrying or extractives industry.
  • • Minimum five years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • • Wheels, Tracks and Rollers endorsement.
  • • Current First Aid qualification.
  • • Sound understanding of quarry legislation, health and safety requirements and environmental compliance.
  • • Strong knowledge of crushing, screening and mobile plant operations.
  • Desirable
  • • Class 4 or Class 5 licence.
  • • Experience managing multiple quarry sites.
  • • Experience with quarry production reporting systems and modern technology platforms.
