About the Role

As a Community Based Support Worker, you’ll support people with disabilities to live independently in their own homes and be active members of their communities.

No two days will be the same. You will work across different locations and support people with different needs, interests and goals. Our community-based roles can span from Ōmokoroa to Te Puke, giving you plenty of variety and new challenges. Shifts can start from 7.00am – 9.30am and finish from 3.00pm – 9.30pm depending on the roster. We have full time and part time roles available.

You could be supporting someone with their morning routine, helping with meal preparation and household tasks, heading to the gym or swimming, helping with shopping or life admin, or simply providing encouragement and companionship.

We’re looking for people who are well connected in their communities and who bring their own interests, skills, creativity and life experiences to the role.

You might be an experienced Support Worker, or you may have transferable skills and experience from another role or from your life. What matters most is your ability to build genuine relationships and support people to achieve the things that are important to them.

The role will include;

• Providing personalised support for people in their own homes.
• Supporting people with everyday tasks, life admin and greater independence.
• Encouraging and facilitate participation in activities and interests such as swimming, gym, shopping and community events.
• Supporting people with meal preparation, household management and personal cares.
• Providing a positive, consistent presence and encourage people to try new things and achieve their goals.
• Building trusting relationships and work collaboratively with families, whānau, community groups and other people involved in someone’s life.
• Maintaining accurate records and contribute to the development and review of individual support plans.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be,

• A great communicator who is patient, calm and able to build trusting relationships.
• Energetic, fit and able to actively engage with the people you support.
• Has a genuine interest in people and enjoys getting involved in a variety of activities.
• Feel confident working alongside community groups and networks and can be a positive role model.
• Can think creatively, adapt to changing situations and embrace new challenges.
• Reliable, flexible and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
• Previous Support Work experience not essential, you may have transferable skills and life experience that will benefit the people we support.
• A full New Zealand drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicle is essential. Milage will be paid.
• Must be eligible to work in New Zealand and willing to meet police vetting requirements.
• Available to work across rostered weekly shifts, including shifts every second weekend where required.
