We are expanding our Finance team and have a new opportunity for an Accountant to join us here in Whakatāne. Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and high-quality reporting across the organisation’s finances, assets, and funding contracts.
Your Key Accountabilities:
- Own bank reconciliations — accurately and on time across operating accounts, term deposits, credit cards, petty cash, and loan facilities, keeping cash balances audit-ready at all times
- Drive ECE debtor billing and collections — ensure childcare fee invoicing aligns with MoE subsidy entitlements and reconcile funding receipts against claims
- Support a rigorous month-end close — reconcile prepayments and control accounts, and provide schedules for consolidated management accounts
- Contribute to fixed asset management — identify and code capital expenditure, monitor work-in-progress accounts, and run depreciation on the asset register
- Champion systems and continuous improvement — identify opportunities to automate and strengthen reconciliation controls
- Grow with the organisation — play a key role in establishing new bank and trust account reconciliations as the housing portfolio expands

You bring strong analytical ability and the confidence to turn financial information into clear, practical insights. With your effective communication skills, a collaborative approach, and a focus on continuous improvement, you’ll be comfortable working across systems, stakeholders, and priorities.
You will also have:
- Working towards a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Experience in financial accounting, reporting, and compliance
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand accounting standards
- Capability in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Strong Excel and accounting system skills
- Sage Intacct experience is an advantage
- A genuine commitment to supporting whānau prosperity and engaging in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga
