Finance Manager

Brendan Foot Supersite is one of the Wellington region’s largest and most successful automotive dealerships. We are a locally owned, family business with a strong track record of franchise success and industry recognition. Across our locations we represent multiple new vehicle brands, operate a significant used vehicle business, and have extensive service, parts and vehicle preparation operations supporting our customers across the region.

Following continued growth, including the addition of a new showroom and new vehicle brand, we are looking for an experienced Finance Manager to lead our day-to-day finance function.

Reporting directly to the CFO and leading a team of six this is a senior role with responsibility for ensuring our finance function operates effectively, accurately and on time. Your role is to lead the team, understand the numbers, challenge what doesn’t look right, maintain strong financial disciplines and ensure issues are followed through to resolution.

The role

You will take ownership of the day-to-day leadership and performance of the finance function. This includes maintaining the integrity of our financial records and controls, overseeing month-end reporting and ensuring deadlines are met, maintaining oversight of cashflow, banking and funding facilities, and leading budgeting and forecasting alongside the CFO and Management Accountant.

You will also have a strong focus on continuous improvement – reviewing existing finance processes, identifying gaps or unnecessary manual work, improving the way our systems are used, and implementing practical changes that strengthen controls and improve efficiency. You will ensure statutory, tax, franchise and year-end requirements are met, identify and resolve financial risks or unusual results, and work closely with senior managers to understand business performance and support decision-making.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for an experienced finance leader with strong accounting fundamentals who enjoys taking ownership of a function and developing the people within it.

You will bring:

• CA/CPA qualification or equivalent.
• Strong financial accounting and reporting experience.
• Proven experience leading and developing a finance team.
• Strong financial controls, balance sheet and risk management capability.
• Commercial judgement and the ability to understand the story behind the numbers.
• Experience managing reporting deadlines, budgeting and forecasting.
• Sound knowledge of New Zealand taxation and statutory requirements.
• Strong Excel and financial systems capability.

Just as importantly, we are looking for someone who is approachable, practical and decisive. We are not a corporate head-office environment. Our finance team supports a busy, operational business where things move quickly, priorities compete and managers need clear, practical financial advice.

Automotive industry experience would be useful, particularly exposure to stock-intensive or high-volume businesses, but it is not essential. The ability to quickly understand a complex operation and establish strong relationships across the business will be more important.
