They have invested in AI research and talent to build a strong AI ecosystem, and launched the National AI Strategy in 2019 to coordinate and focus their efforts on a national level. A Guide To Job Redesign In The Age Of AI, developed by IMDA and the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, was also published to help companies manage AI’s impact on employees and prepare for the future of work. Training programmes such as AI Singapore’s AI for Everyone and IMDA’s TechSkills Accelerator were also created to help develop home-grown AI talent and prepare Singaporeans for the future AI economy.
Top findings
- Singapore has the highest use of AI software (98%) out of any country we surveyed. The most common AI applications include identifying and reporting on employee data trends (47%) and creating HR content such as job adverts (40%).
- A resounding 80% of HR leaders expect an increase in AI use in the coming years, with 46% anticipating a significant increase and 34% predicting a slight rise. Senior HR leaders spearhead this expectation, with 64% of Owners, C-suite or Executive Leadership predicting a significant increase.
- AI advancements in the HR sector are expected to benefit employees: improved employee self-service (35%) and enhanced employee performance and productivity (32%).
- Soft skills like critical thinking were identified as crucial for AI readiness by 48% of the surveyed population, followed by programming or coding skills (37%).
- The primary AI-related concerns revolve around employee privacy (37%), lack of trust and transparency (29%) and the absence of AI governance principles (27%).
How is AI affecting HR in Singapore?
It’s crystal clear that the government is fully supportive and encouraging businesses to use AI and machine learning to drive innovation, improve efficiency and enhance the customer experience. HR professionals in Singapore are already engaging with AI tools in the workplace, and expect to be using a lot more of it in the future.
