Description

Auckland / Waikato | Full-time summer role | Potential part-time work in 2027

Are you a computer science, software, data, AI or tech-savvy engineering student who enjoys using technology to solve practical problems?

TEG is looking for a proactive summer intern to help us apply AI, automation and digital tools across our project delivery and risk engineering work. You will work with both TEG Projects and TEG Risk, learning how our project managers and safety engineers deliver work for industrial clients, then helping identify where AI and automation can make that work faster, better and more consistent.

This is not just a “prompting” role. We are looking for someone who can understand how the business works, spot improvement opportunities, test tools and help build simple working solutions.

You could be working on

  • AI and automation ideas for real project and risk assignments.
  • Workflow improvements using tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Power Automate and AI services.
  • Simple scripts, prototypes, automations or tools that reduce repetitive work.
  • Improvements to reporting, data capture, document workflows, meeting summaries and knowledge sharing.
  • Practical ways to connect information across tools such as SharePoint, HubSpot CRM and Microsoft 365.

This role would suit

  • Computer science, software engineering, data, AI, information systems or similar students.
  • Engineering students who are strong with technology and interested in applying AI to real business problems.
  • Curious, practical people who like experimenting, building and improving how work gets done.
  • Students who can work with some ambiguity, ask good questions and turn ideas into useful outputs.

What you will get

  • Real-world experience applying AI and automation in a professional services business.
  • Exposure to project managers, safety engineers and client-facing industrial work.
  • The opportunity to help shape how a growing business adopts practical AI tools.
  • Full-time summer work, with potential part-time or casual work during 2027 for the right person.

To apply

Send us a short summary of what you are studying, your interest in AI or automation, and any examples of tools, scripts, projects, automations or AI experiments you have built or tested.
