Build the communications systems behind autonomous vehicles that operate when it matters most.
At SYOS Aerospace, we’re pushing the boundaries of autonomous technology, developing next-generation uncrewed systems across air, land and sea for dual-use applications.
We’re looking for an experienced RF Communications & Networks Engineer to become our RF Subject Matter Expert. You’ll be the go-to person for RF communications, shaping how our platforms communicate, perform and succeed in real-world missions.
This is a rare opportunity to own the RF capability in a fast-growing, high-performing engineering team where you’ll work across the full product lifecycle – from concept and integration through to field testing and operational deployment.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the integration, testing and optimisation of RF communications and network systems across autonomous platforms.
- Design robust communication architectures, antenna solutions and networking infrastructure.
- Analyse RF performance, troubleshoot complex technical challenges and optimise system reliability.
- Work alongside mechanical, electrical, avionics, software and systems engineers to deliver fully integrated platforms.
- Support vehicle integration, flight trials and operational deployments, adapting systems as mission conditions evolve.
- Anticipate technical risks before they become mission issues, ensuring communications remain resilient in demanding environments.
- Understand and apply RF legislation, spectrum licensing and relevant defense and aviation requirements to ensure compliant operations.
- Produce clear engineering documentation including integration procedures, test reports, RF performance analysis and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for an engineer with deep RF expertise who enjoys technical ownership and solving complex problems.
You’ll have experience in many of the following:
- RF communications system design and integration
- Antenna design and RF circuit fundamentals
- Wireless communication protocols and networking (TCP/IP, UDP)
- Signal integrity, spectrum management and EMI/EMC
- RF test equipment including spectrum analysers, network analysers and signal generators
- Python, Bash or similar scripting for automation and data analysis
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience integrating and testing RF communication and network systems.
- Strong knowledge of RF principles, antenna theory, wireless communications, and network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP).
- Hands-on experience with RF test equipment, including spectrum analysers, vector network analysers and signal generators.
- Experience using Python, Bash or similar for test automation and data analysis.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Able to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in defence, aerospace, telecommunications, satellite communications or industrial wireless.
- Knowledge of LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi, Software-defined radio, embedded systems, Real- Time Operating Systems, network security and Git.
- Experience supporting field trials, system integration or operational testing.
Why SYOS?
At SYOS, you’ll work on technology that matters, alongside passionate engineers who move quickly, solve difficult problems and aren’t afraid to challenge convention. Every prototype, every flight trial and every successful mission is the result of exceptional engineering.
If you’re ready to own the RF capability and help shape the future of autonomous systems, we’d love to hear from you.
Note this role is based in Mount Maunganui (relocation support provided).
