SUPPORT WORKER – YOUTH RES- Permanent Full-Time (1.0 FTE) & Casuals
Our Youth Residential Service provides a safe, stable and trauma-informed environment for rangatahi experiencing mental distress. We are looking for experienced Support Workers who can build trusting relationships, bring calm and consistency to daily routines, and walk alongside rangatahi as they strengthen their recovery, wellbeing and connection with whānau, school and community.
This is a permanent, full-time role (1.0 FTE) with responsibilities ranging from one-to-one key worker support through to helping maintain a safe, welcoming and well-run residential home. Also casual roles available.
About the role | Mō te Tūnga
In this role you will:
- Build trusting, therapeutic and mana-enhancing relationships with rangatahi
- Create structure, predictability and purpose through daily routines and meaningful activities
- Support rangatahi to learn and practise skills for independent living
- Facilitate goal setting with rangatahi using the Recovery Outcome Star
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide a warm, kind and caring atmosphere
- Use evidence-based interventions to help rangatahi build a kete of coping skills and manage big feelings and mental distress
- Prioritise whānau, school and community relationships alongside each rangatahi
- Work alongside other mental health professionals, including Specialist Mental Health Services treating teams
About you | Mōu
You will bring warmth, maturity and sound judgement, with the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, rangatahi and whānau. You will also have:
- A caring and compassionate nature with strong communication skills
- A good understanding of developmental trauma and attachment-informed practice
- The ability to build trusting and healthy relationships with rangatahi
- The ability to maintain composure and healthy boundaries in high-stress situations
- Confidence role-modelling coping skills and strategies that support good mental health
- A hopeful, strengths-focused and mana-enhancing approach
- The ability to motivate and engage rangatahi in meaningful activities
- A Level 4 Health and Wellbeing Certificate, or equivalent, or willingness to work towards this
- A willingness to commit to and support Stepping Stone Trust’s bicultural journey as we live out our partnership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
- An understanding of Health and Safety and Infection Prevention and Control principles
- A full clean driver licence
