About SILC
For over 30 years, SILC has been dedicated to supporting people with disabilities to live a life of their choosing—a life full of opportunities, friendships, and experiences. We walk alongside the people we support to facilitate a sense of belonging and independence.
This is a meaningful and rewarding role where you will make a real difference, helping others achieve the things that matter to them and enabling people with disabilities to live lives they love.
About the Role
As a Community Support Worker with SILC, you will be an authentic and community-minded advocate for the people we support. Your role is to support people to build independence, develop meaningful relationships, pursue their interests, and live fulfilling lives within their community. We have part-time (30 – 59 hours per fortnight) and full- time (60 – 75 hours per fortnight) opportunities available across Tauranga, Mount Maunganui and Papamoa.
You will be part of a diverse and supportive team, focused on recognising what matters to each individual and helping them to build a life around their interests.
This involves:
- Community Connection: Facilitating and supporting participation in the community through authentic, ongoing activities and helping to build natural connections and supports. If you’re someone who enjoys being engaged in your community, you’ll thrive in helping people connect with their interests.
- Support & Independence: Promoting independence in people’s homes by assisting with personal cares, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Goal-Focused Work: Supporting people with their individual plans and goals, seeing the value, potential, and individuality of every person you support.
- Complex Support: Providing person-centred support for people with a range of support needs, including non-verbal communication, autism, epilepsy, diabetes management, and other complex needs. Experience is valued, but a willingness to learn is equally important.
About You
To be successful in this role our ideal candidate will be:
- Passionate about supporting people to live purposeful and fulfilling lives.
- A natural relationship builder who is genuinely connected to the community.
- Patient and calm, with a fun and positive sense of humour.
- An excellent motivator with sound written and verbal communication skills.
- Someone who enjoys encouraging people to explore their interests, build confidence, and participate in meaningful activities.
- Eligible to work in New Zealand and willing to meet police vetting requirements.
- Full New Zealand Driver Licence and competence to drive a range of company vehicles, including mobility vans.
- Able to work across rostered shifts, with flexibility for day shifts, weekend shifts and rostered sleepovers.
Why Join SILC?
- Competitive Pay: Pay rates from $24.74 – $30.06 per hour (dependent on your qualifications) plus paid time for sleepover work.
- Ongoing Training and Development opportunities to help you succeed.
- My Boost App – Access exclusive discounts at a wide range of NZ retailers and service providers.
