Tēnā koutou katoa,

He mahi whai take | A role with purpose

Do you care deeply about improving health outcomes for whānau Māori and our diverse communities? If this kaupapa speaks to you, we would welcome a kōrero.

We are looking for someone who brings genuine passion for equity, strong relationship skills and the confidence to help turn insight into practical change. You may bring expertise in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, hauora Māori, equity, community development, primary care or quality improvement, or transferable skills gained through another pathway.

Ko wai mātou | About us

Pegasus Health works alongside general practices and communities across Waitaha Canterbury to support the health and wellbeing of our people.

Giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving hauora Māori and equity are important to our mahi. We value the diversity of our communities and want our people to reflect the communities we serve.

Te āhua o te mahi | What you will be doing

As our Equity Practice Partner, you will be part of our Practice Enablement Team, working alongside general practices and teams across Pegasus. The role is 0.7–1.0 FTE, with flexibility to discuss what this might look like with the successful applicant.

We are seeking someone who connects with this kaupapa, values relationships and is motivated to work alongside people to create practical, sustainable solutions. You will work alongside general practice teams to understand the priorities, pressures and opportunities facing each general practice, and help develop pragmatic approaches tailored to their community, resources and operating context. If you bring many of the strengths below, along with curiosity and a commitment to keep learning, we encourage you to get in touch.

You will:

  • Work alongside practices to understand barriers to access, experiences and outcomes for whānau Māori and communities experiencing inequities, and identify practical opportunities for improvement
  • Support the development, implementation and ongoing strengthening of Māori health plans, recall and screening activity, equity measures, and quality improvement
  • Use data and community insights to understand inequities and identify opportunities for meaningful action
  • Connect practices with Māori, Pacific, Whaikaha and other community expertise, services, and resources to strengthen outcomes for whānau and communities

Ngā pūkenga motuhake | The expertise you bring

  • A strong commitment to equity, hauora Māori and giving practical effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, supported by knowledge of Te Ao Māori, tikanga Māori and the issues influencing health equity
  • Proven understanding of how small-to-medium-sized businesses are managed, including the operational, financial, workforce and service-delivery realities that shape day-to-day decisions
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with practices, whānau, iwi, hapū, rūnaka, Māori health providers and communities, and to listen well enough to understand the real issues and context behind what is happening
  • Experience or transferable strengths in hauora Māori, health equity, primary care, community development, quality improvement, change, implementation or a related area, with the judgement to turn data and insight into pragmatic, achievable solutions

Kua rite koe mō tēnei mahi? | Are you ready to make a difference?

We know that the knowledge, experience, relationships and perspectives people bring cannot always be captured in a CV. You do not need to meet every point listed to start a conversation with us. If this kaupapa matters to you and you believe your strengths could contribute, we invite you to apply or contact us for an informal kōrero. In your cover letter, tell us about:

  • ko wai koe – who you are and the values you bring
  • what draws you to this kaupapa
  • the strengths, knowledge and perspectives you would bring to the mahi

Ngā painga | What we offer

We offer meaningful mahi and an opportunity to make a difference in our community. You will join a team that values learning, collaboration and the contribution each person brings.

If you’d like to kōrero about the role, please contact Rachel McAllum, Practice Enablement Lead, at rachel.mcallum@pegasus.health.nz.
