Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support our team of engineers by delivering technical drawings and designs.  Your role will involve creating detailed drawings for plant and equipment and piping and instrumentation diagrams.  You will also prepare building and equipment layouts.

Although no two days are the same, your typical day would include design works, participating in design reviews, onsite measurement, 3D laser scanning, and site supervision, working on FEA, completing tender documentation and project management – with structured mentoring and professional development support along the way.

Largely based in our central Hamilton offices, the role also involves occasional site visits and supervision of projects, so you’ll be available to travel. This role offers challenging problems to solve and variety, as part of a multi-disciplinary team where you’ll learn something new every day.

We work a standard 40-hour week, and pre-approved additional hours over 45 hours per week are compensated in accordance with company policy at a rate derived from your salary. Based in Hamilton, you may be required to work at various project locations from time to time.

About you:

This role will suit a graduate mechanical engineer looking to start their career with a supportive team and real project exposure. Our ideal candidate will have ‘the knack’, as well as:

• Excellent eye for detail and communication skills
• A passion for innovative and creative design
• A tertiary level mechanical engineering qualification, completed or due to be completed before the February 2027 start date
• Some internship, vacation work or practical project experience is preferred, but not essential
• Experience with Inventor and AutoCAD (or similar software), FEA and designing mechanical equipment will be an advantage
• A genuine passion for engineering, a “can-do” attitude and strong communication and self-leadership skill
