About the Role

As a Medical Laboratory Technician in Immunology, you will perform a range of immunology tests on clinical samples in accordance with documented procedures, contributing to the efficient and effective operation of the department while maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and patient care.

You’ll work alongside an experienced Immunology team, gaining exposure to a broad range of testing while building specialist skills in immunology. This role includes:

  • Performing immunology testing to documented procedures, including CMIA on automated analysers, automated ELISA, and manual methods.
  • Preparing, processing, and screening IFA slides.
  • Processing specimens promptly and efficiently to support timely reporting of results.
  • Operating, monitoring, and maintaining analysers and equipment, and resolving routine analyser and assay issues.
  • Performing and documenting quality control, and participating in internal and external quality assurance programmes.
  • Escalating abnormal QC and significant or urgent results in line with laboratory procedures, and supporting the training of staff and students.

  • Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand in the Medical Laboratory Technician scope of practice (full or provisional) and a current APC, or eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for quality patient care.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • A commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
  • An understanding of quality control and laboratory quality systems, including IANZ requirements.

  • Experience with automated immunoassay, ELISA and/or IFA testing.
  • An interest in developing your skills and career within a specialist laboratory environment.
