Description

Are you searching for an exciting career pathway?

If the answer is yes, joining Patersons is an opportunity you won’t want to miss. [CW1]

We are looking for Intermediate Planners to join a planning team that is growing fast and aiming high. Our current pipeline is full, with more to come, and we are building the team to match it. You will keep doing the consenting work you are already good at, and you will get exposure to strategic and spatial planning alongside it, which is where a lot of the interesting work in this profession is heading.

We are targeting Planners who want to grow into senior roles, and we have the leaders, mentors and projects to help you get there.

You can be based in any of our six offices: Dunedin, Queenstown, Wānaka, Cromwell, Alexandra or Christchurch. We are flexible on which for the right person.

What you will be doing

Preparing resource consent applications and other planning applications across district and regional matters, with the variety and challenges that come from working in high growth areas. Feasibility and scoping advice at the front end of projects. Liaison with councils and other agencies and attending consent and application hearings.

You will work closely with our survey and engineering teams rather than in a planning silo, which means you learn how a plan gets delivered, not just how it gets approved. You will also have real autonomy. We trust people to run their own work, but importantly our seniors are always available when help is needed.

What you will bring

At least four years in the planning sector, and ideally five or more. A relevant planning or environmental management qualification, New Zealand experience in land use development, subdivision or natural resource management, and a working knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991 and council consent processes.

If you are earlier in your career than that but back yourself, get in touch anyway. We are growing, and a really good junior is worth making room for.

You will need to be a strong writer and articulate in positioning advice for a wide variety of clients and stakeholders. The ability to hold several projects at once without dropping the detail. The judgement to balance competing viewpoints matters too, because that is most of the job on a tricky site.

Beyond that, we are after a self-starter who is proactive about their own career. We are open about wanting people who intend to grow into senior roles. As a Patersons’ employee you will have a personal development plan built around where you want to get to, as well as a range of benefits.
