About the role
The Nurse Advisor supports the Deputy Registrar and Fitness to Practise Manager to help ensure competence processes are delivered in a way that is fair, consistent, and robust.
A key part of this role involves working directly with nurses who have been referred to the Council’s competence process following the receipt of a notification raising concerns about their competence to practise. You will support these nurses through the regulatory process, assess relevant information, and contribute to fair, consistent, and evidence-based decision-making that protects public safety while supporting professional practice.
In this role, you will contribute to maintaining and continuously improving processes, so they remain effective, well‑informed, and aligned with best practice. You will work closely with senior clinical and regulatory leaders, using your professional judgement to support sound decision-making.
You will also play an important role in policy and process development, drawing on available data and insights to support improvements and provide clear, evidence-based advice.
A key aspect of the role is engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including nurses, employers, and professional groups. Through these interactions, you will help position the Council as a responsive, professional, and customer-focused organisation that delivers high-quality service.
About you
You are an experienced registered nurse with strong professional credibility and the ability to translate complex information into clear, practical advice.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A post-graduate qualification in nursing
- A current Annual Practising Certificate and significant experience as a Registered Nurse
- Strong understanding of the health and disability sector
- Proven ability to analyse information and communicate clearly in writing
- Confidence providing advice on complex professional issues
- A strength-based approach to working with nurses
- Cultural awareness and a commitment to equity and culturally safe practice
- An interest in quality improvement, policy development, and system improvement
You will also be collaborative, thoughtful, and resilient, with strong judgement and a commitment to supporting both public safety and the nursing profession.
