About the role / Te whiwhinga mahi

We are seeking a senior procurement professional with experience working in, or closely with, New Zealand local government to join our advisory team.

You will work with councils to deliver better procurement, commercial, and service delivery outcomes. Drawing on your practical experience, you will support procurement strategy, market engagement, tendering, evaluation, commercial negotiation, and contract delivery across operational services and possibly also capital works programmes.

This is an opportunity to apply your expertise across a range of councils and projects, working alongside experienced advisors to help clients make confident procurement decisions and deliver meaningful outcomes for their communities.

About you / Ko wai koe

You are a procurement professional with strong local government and commercial experience, sound judgement, and excellent written communication skills. You can translate complex procurement, operational, and commercial information into clear recommendations, reports, and presentations for decision makers.

You may already be working in consulting, or you may be looking to apply your public sector procurement experience in an advisory environment.

To be successful in this role, you will

  • Hold a relevant degree and have at least 7 years’ experience in procurement or related commercial disciplines. · Have experience leading or advising on procurement processes, including procurement planning, market engagement, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and contract award.
  • Understand local government operations, governance requirements, funding constraints, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Ideally have experience in transport, facilities, or other council service areas.
  • Write client-ready procurement documentation and related reports and presentations, that communicate complex information clearly.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within agreed timeframes and budgets.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues, with a collaborative and pragmatic approach.
  • Bring consulting experience, or exposure to advisory work or business development. This would be highly regarded but is not essential.
