Kiwicare is offering an exciting R&D Summer Experience for a motivated 3rd or 4th year student studying Chemistry, Chemical Formulation Design, Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
Based in Christchurch, this project will contribute directly to the development of innovative animal pest bait technologies that support New Zealand’s ambitious Predator Free 2050 vision. Working alongside experienced scientists and formulation specialists, you’ll gain valuable industry research experience while helping develop practical solutions for protecting New Zealand’s native biodiversity.
This opportunity is supported through the R&D Experience Grant Programme and provides 400 hours of paid employment over the summer period.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working closely with Kiwicare’s Research & Development team, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting literature reviews
- Assisting formulation chemists with the preparation of experimental bait formulations
- Manufacturing small batches of bait products using laboratory equipment
- Undertaking physical and quality testing of bait samples
- Collecting, recording, and analysing experimental data
- Contributing to project discussions and research findings
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a 3rd or 4th year student who:
- Has a background in Chemistry, Chemical Formulation Design, Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Has excellent attention to detail
- Enjoys practical laboratory work
- Works well both independently and within a team
- Has strong written and verbal communication skill
