Description

About Us

John Fillmore Contracting (JFC) is a leading New Zealand civil construction and infrastructure company, delivering earthworks, drainage, roading, and utilities projects across Auckland and Wellington. With around 350 employees and a large contractor workforce, our Integrated Management System is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, and our safety performance is among the best in the sector.

What you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the General Manager – QHSE, you’ll be the national custodian of our management system’s health. This is a systems role with real breadth – equal parts ISO conformance, technical writing, auditing, and performance reporting. Based in Auckland with regular travel to our Wellington region, you will:

  • Keep our quality system conforming to ISO 9001, and support our ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification through Telarc surveillance and recertification audits
  • Write and revise procedures, work instructions, and forms – turning ISO clauses, legislation, and client specs into clear, practical documents people actually use
  • Deliver the national internal audit programme end to end – planning, execution, reporting, and corrective action close-out
  • Own our monthly QHSE and KPI reporting – quality, safety, environment, and training metrics – for the executive team and board, plus client contract KPI returns
  • Keep our controlled document suite current and consistent across both divisions through Site App Pro

What we are looking for:

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes to succeed in this position:

  • 3–5 years in a quality, QHSE, or auditing role – civil construction or infrastructure experience preferred, but a strong systems background in another regulated sector will be considered
  • Sound working knowledge of ISO 9001, with internal auditor training (ISO 19011) and real audit delivery experience
  • A genuinely good writer – you produce plain-English procedures that work for the crew on site, not just the auditor
  • Confident with data – comfortable building KPI reporting and dashboards in Excel (Power BI a bonus)
  • Self-organising and site-credible, with a constructive audit style focused on improvement, not fault-finding
  • Full, clean NZ driver licence and happy to travel regularly between divisions

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive salary (dependent on experience) plus tool-of-trade vehicle or allowance
  • A national role with genuine variety – no two weeks the same across two divisions and live civil projects
  • A mature, certified, digital management system – and a direct hand in shaping where it goes next
  • Mentorship from an experienced QHSE leadership team and structured professional development
  • The chance to see your procedures, audits, and reporting genuinely used at every level of the business
