About the organisation
He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Māori organisation who have been supporting individuals and the community for over 30 years. He Waka Tapu works to increase the health and wellbeing of Whānau.
About the role
In this role, you will support long-term healing and recovery for whānau affected by violence. Playing a key part in building strong, resilient communities where whānau are uplifted to live violence-free, ensuring a safer future for the next generation.
The whanau resilience kaimahi engages in a holistic way using a whānau ora model of working to assess needs and walk along side the whānau to help build skills, confidence and enable a positive behaviour change.
Key responsibilities include
- Empower whānau by supporting and facilitating a process that allows people to determine their own priorities, needs, and aspirations.
- Encourage and support whānau-led planning by engaging with them to ensure their whānau plan is achieved.
- Involve the whaiora and their whānau in the development of plans, goals, and objectives.
- Advocate to ensure recovery needs are met, taking into account the choices and preferences of the whairoa.
- Work in partnership with He Waka Tapu services, to enable and support whaiora to achieve their goals.
- Ensure whaiora’s needs are met through the efficient coordination of services by applying processes that support the whaiora pathway.
Skills and experience
- Experience working with Māori and within a kaupapa Māori environment.
- Experience in establishing effective working relationships with individuals, their whānau and other key stakeholders.
- A passion for helping people.
- Commitment and/or experience working in a Whānau Ora model.
- Experience working with whānau, lived experience.
- Full, clean New Zealand drivers’ licence.
