Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Heavy Fabricator to join our Heavy Shop division. In this role, you will oversee and execute complex welding and fabrication projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. As a senior team member, you will provide technical expertise, mentor junior staff, and play a critical role in maintaining safety and quality standards within the workshop.

Responsibilities:

Project Leadership:

  • Oversee the execution of welding and fabrication projects from initiation to completion.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the required quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with production managers, design engineers, fabricators, and the General Manager to ensure smooth workflow and efficient project execution.
  • Technical Expertise and Quality Assurance:
  • Perform advanced welding and fabrication work on complex and high-value projects.
  • Ensure all welding and fabrication work complies with industry standards, certifications, and safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks on welding work, ensuring adherence to project specifications and identifying any defects or issues.
  • Stay updated with new welding technologies and methods to enhance work quality and efficiency.
  • Mentorship and Team Development:
  • Mentor and guide junior tradesmen, apprentices, and team members to enhance their skills and ensure high-quality workmanship.
  • Provide hands-on training and technical support to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Set clear expectations, assign responsibilities, and monitor individual and team performance.
  • Specialized Welding Projects:
  • Execute projects involving pipe welding, structural welding, and precision fabrication, ensuring welds and fabricated items meet strength and precision standards.
  • Work on projects requiring certified welds to ensure structural integrity and compliance.
  • Client Nurturing, Quoting, and Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to nurture repeat business and attract new projects for the Heavy Shop.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive quotes for potential projects, ensuring alignment with client requirements and project feasibility.
  • Manage client communications throughout project lifecycles, addressing inquiries, providing updates, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services offered to existing clients and develop strategies to win new business.
  • Health and Safety Compliance:
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness, ensuring all team members adhere to health and safety regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, identify potential hazards, and implement measures to mitigate risks.

    • Requirements:

  • Proven experience in heavy fabrication and welding, with a strong focus on high-quality, complex projects.
  • Expertise in various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and ARC welding.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards, certifications, and safety practices.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience supervising and developing team members.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on identifying and resolving project challenges efficiently.
  • Certification in welding codes and standards is highly desirable.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective client interaction.
