We’re looking for a Student Services Specialist – Pastoral Care who will champion learner well‑being and success at Future Skills. This permanent, full-time role is based at our new Albany Campus.
About this Role:
Safeguarding the well-being and success of Future Skills learners by providing tailored pastoral care support for their personal, emotional, and academic needs is your priority!
This role is accountable for acting as a trusted point of contact for learners and staff; and strengthens learner retention, engagement, and success through coordinated support and advocacy
You will be referring and connecting learners to internal and external support services, maintaining confidential intervention records, and identifying learners who need additional academic support.
Success in this role will ensure excellence within:
- Timely response to learner referrals and requests for pastoral care support.
- Delivery of confidential and appropriate pastoral care interventions
- Maintenance of confidential records for all learner support interactions
- Learner engagement and well-being initiatives (including orientation, graduation, and employability workshops), contributing to improved learner retention and success outcomes
In evaluating candidates for this position, consideration is given to a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifications and Experience:
• A tertiary qualification in education, counselling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience working in learner support, pastoral care, or related services
• Experience working with diverse learner populations
• Experience in event planning and learner engagement activities is desirable
• Familiarity with NZQA’s Code of Practice for Pastoral Care of Learners
Skills and Competencies:
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• High level of ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
• Excellent problem-solving and crisis management skills
• Strong ability to work collaboratively with academic and learner services teams
• Strong ability to plan and coordinate events and learner workshops
• Proficient in using student and learner management systems or databases (advantageous)
• Experience in the development of digital well-being resources is an advantage
• A genuine commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural competency
