Role Type
Description
AIC is looking for a Head of Student Success to lead academic support, wellbeing and pastoral care for an international, multicultural student body and to make sure orientation, learning support and graduation all run well.
AIC’s mission is to build capability for a global workforce, and that starts with learners who feel supported enough to actually finish what they came here to do. This role owns that: the systems, the people, and the relationships that keep students attending, progressing and succeeding, from their first day of orientation to the day they walk across the graduation stage.
What you will be responsible for:
- Student experience and wellbeing: Run pastoral care, attendance counselling and learning support across a multi-campus environment, and build the external networks
- Events that matter: Deliver orientation that actually orientates people, and an annual graduation that celebrates what students have earned, with repeatable, professional processes behind both.
- Learning support: Lead the Learning Support team, keep the resource centre genuinely useful, and work with Academic leadership to catch at-risk students early rather than after the fact.
- Compliance & quality: Keep AIC’s practice aligned with the Tertiary and International Learners Code of Practice, ready for NZQA review, and improving through honest self-assessment.
- Leadership & reporting: Set the direction for Student Success in line with AIC’s strategic plan, report on what’s working to senior management, and keep close ties with Learning & Teaching, Marketing and Operations.
- Our People: Hire well, coach consistently, and build a team culture where advisors, tutors and ambassadors feel backed to do their best work for students.
Who we’re looking for:
- Educated to degree level or higher, in a field relevant to the position
- Experience in student support services, ideally in tertiary education
- Experience developing professional networks across relevant support agencies.
- Experience successfully managing events, from start to finish
- Knowledge of the Tertiary and International Learners Code of Practice.
- Ability to conceptualise, organise, direct, and successfully execute multiple project planning processes simultaneously.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of colleagues and groups across campus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with professionalism and integrity.
- Strong listening and coaching skills, with the ability to tailor approach to the audience.
- Ability to work positively with diverse learners, demonstrating support and empathy for their needs.
