Description
Lodge Porter | Flockhill Lodge | Canterbury High Country | Fixed Term Nov–April
Most people only see this part of Canterbury through a car window on the way to Arthur’s Pass. This summer, you could live in it.
Flockhill Lodge is a luxury high-country lodge 90 minutes from Christchurch, and we’re looking for a Lodge Porter to join the team for the season. You’re often the first and last face our guests see, so this role matters. It’s hands-on and varied, and it gets you outdoors.
What you’ll be doing
- Welcoming guests in. You’ll greet arrivals, take care of their luggage, park their cars, and help them settle in without fuss.
- Sending them off well. You’ll collect luggage at check-out, bring cars round from valet parking, load up, and make every departure smooth and unhurried. These are guests’ own vehicles (manual and automatic), so care and road awareness on site are essential.
- Keeping the outside of the lodge sharp. This includes window cleaning, clearing cobwebs and bird mess, leaf blowing, lawn mowing, and water blasting patios, with daily and weekly routines.
- Pitching in where it’s needed. You’ll support the housekeeping team, pass maintenance issues on to the right people, and step into other areas of the lodge when it’s busy.
About you
- You hold a full driver’s licence and are confident driving both manual and automatic cars. Valid overseas licences are welcome.
- You’re fit, happy working outdoors in all weather, and able to lift heavy luggage safely
- You have experience in hotels, lodges, or premium hospitality (ideal, but attitude counts)
- You’re organised, reliable, and notice the details other people walk past
- You’re warm and polished with guests, and stay calm when it’s busy
- You have valid NZ work rights for the full contract period
What’s on offer
- $29–$31 per hour, depending on experience
- A fixed-term contract from mid-November to the end of April
- A minimum of 60 hours per fortnight
- On-site staff accommodation from $175 per week, with your own bedroom and wifi and power included
- A summer in one of Canterbury’s most spectacular spots, working with a close-knit team
