Farm Tour Guide

At Flock Hill Lodge, our farm isn’t a backdrop — it’s part of the story. Tucked into the Canterbury high country, our farm tours give guests a real, hands-on taste of working farm life: wide open landscapes, working dogs, and the kind of authenticity you can’t fake. We’re looking for a Farm Tour Guide who can bring that experience to life — someone who knows farming, loves people, and isn’t afraid to get their hands (and their dogs) dirty.

Flock Hill Lodge is a 90minute drive from Christchurch with staff accommodation on site.

Te tūnga | The role

We have one permanent (full time) and one fixed term (summer season) role available

As our Farm Tour Guide, you’ll lead guided farm tours and dog demonstrations for lodge guests, sharing the reality of working farm life and creating a genuinely memorable, personalised experience. You’ll read each group and tailor the tour to suit — their interests, their pace, their questions — bringing your own farming knowledge and stories into it.

Safety comes first, always — for guests, staff, and animals alike. You’ll be confident running risk assessments on activities, equipment and terrain, following safety protocols, and staying prepared for the unexpected, including first aid if it’s needed. You’ll also keep an eye on the gear, flagging anything that needs fixing before it becomes a problem.

Flock Hill runs on a “muck in” culture. This role sits within the Activities team, reporting to the Activities Manager, where you will also support with additional guest activities such as hiking and driving tours. We also offer clay bird shooting – so a gun license would be an added bonus. To support the wider farm operation there may be from time to time where you support the Farm Manager and his team. When the wider lodge needs an extra pair of hands, you’ll be ready to step up wherever you’re needed — with a positive, team-first attitude.

He aha tāu e mau mai ai | What you’ll bring

• 1–2 good working dogs under solid control, or experience and ability to work dogs (think one huntaway, one heading dog)
• Genuine, relevant farm experience — and a real desire to share it with others
• A natural way with people: friendly, professional, and quick to read what a guest needs
• Sound judgement under pressure, with first aid know-how (or willingness to get it)
• Strong time management and the initiative to get on with things
• A team player who takes direction well and pitches in wherever needed
• High personal standards — discipline, loyalty, honesty and integrity, non-negotiable
