Activities Guide

At Flock Hill Lodge, adventure isn’t one thing — it’s fly fishing at dawn, a mountain bike ride through the tussock, a climb up limestone rock, or an ATV run across the high country. We’re looking for seasonal Activities Guides who can move fluidly between these experiences, bringing skill, safety and genuine enthusiasm to every one of them. If you love the outdoors and love sharing that passion with people, this is a role built for you.

We have vacancies ready to be filled in October, November and December for 4-8 months in duration.

Te tūnga | The role

As our Activities Guide, you’ll guide and facilitate the multiple different experiences on offer at Flock Hill — always in line with our safety management plan, and always with an eye for detail that keeps things looking and feeling effortless. You’ll present each activity with genuine enthusiasm, creating experiences that reflect Flock Hill’s values rather than a generic adventure-park script.

You’ll take direction from the Activities Manager, work independently when needed, and stay adaptable as plans change — high country weather rarely reads the itinerary. You’ll also coordinate closely with farm operations, housekeeping and F&B, so guest experiences flow smoothly across departments rather than existing in silos.

Beyond guiding, you’ll be a visible, dependable part of the wider team: passing on maintenance issues, pitching in on other duties, and supporting colleagues in biodiversity, housekeeping, kitchen, restaurant, portering and guest transport as the lodge needs. Health and safety runs through everything you do — for yourself, your guests, and your team.

He aha tāu e mau mai ai | What you’ll bring

• Confidence in a range of outdoor pursuits — fly fishing, climbing, hiking, biking, shooting, paddling or farming; no one arrives skilled in all of them, but a genuine outdoor background is essential
• Competent 4WD and ATV driving on paddocks and farm tracks (P-endorsement, manual, and quad bike experience an advantage)
• Current First Aid certification (PHEC preferred)
• NZOIA qualifications or equivalent experience in bush, rock or paddle disciplines, a gun licence, 4WD certification, or a fishing licence — all advantageous, though not essential
• Experience in high-end or lodge hospitality, and an understanding of the standards that come with it
• Strong time management, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks without cutting corners
• Honesty, flexibility and reliability, with the leadership to guide by example and the composure to stay effective under pressure
• A level of fitness for the physical demands of the role, and the people skills to balance guiding duties with genuine guest interaction
