Help Us Establish Five-D’s Presence in New Zealand’s Geothermal Heartland

Five-D Limited is a 100% employee-owned, multi-discipline engineering consultancy delivering practical, high-quality engineering solutions across New Zealand’s critical industries.

Following strong growth across our business, we are expanding our presence into the Central North Island and are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer | Taupō Regional Lead to become our first Taupō-based team member.

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated and commercially-minded engineer to help establish Five-D’s presence in one of New Zealand’s most important energy regions, working closely with clients involved in geothermal, renewable energy, industrial, and process industries.

You’ll have the backing of an experienced team while enjoying the autonomy to build strong local relationships, identify opportunities, and help grow our regional footprint.

About the Role

This is more than a traditional engineering role.

As our first Taupō-based engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing client relationships, supporting project delivery, and helping establish Five-D as a trusted engineering partner throughout the region.

You will:

  • Lead mechanical engineering projects from concept through to commissioning and completion.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Support geothermal, energy, industrial, and process sector projects across the Central North Island.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Five-D’s presence and services in the region.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring within project teams.
  • Work closely with our New Plymouth-based engineering team to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Take ownership of technical quality, safety, and project performance.

About You

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with the drive to make things happen.

You will bring:

  • 10+ years’ mechanical engineering experience in consulting, industrial, energy, geothermal, or related environments.
  • Experience delivering mechanical design and engineering projects across their full lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of relevant engineering standards and industry best practice.
  • Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • The confidence to work independently and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an ability to identify opportunities for growth.
  • A proactive, self-starting approach and willingness to take ownership.
  • A collaborative mindset and desire to contribute to a growing business.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience within the geothermal, energy, process, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Existing professional networks within the Central North Island region.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or progress towards it.
