About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Civil Project Manager who combines strong project delivery capability with hands-on civil and structural engineering expertise.
In this role, you will lead the successful delivery of energy infrastructure and utility projects while also undertaking and overseeing civil and structural design activities. You will work closely with clients, contractors, engineers and specialist consultants to deliver safe, high-quality and commercially successful outcomes.
This role offers the ideal balance between project leadership, client engagement, technical design and engineering assurance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead the successful delivery of civil and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects from concept through to commissioning.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, resources and risks.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for future work.
- Coordinate internal and external project teams to achieve programme, quality and commercial objectives.
- Lead project planning, reporting, governance and risk management activities.
- Facilitate project reviews, stakeholder meetings and progress reporting.
- Support business development and contribute to Edison’s continued growth in the energy sector.
Civil & Structural Design
- Undertake in-house civil and structural design for smaller and less complex substation projects and upgrades.
- Review and provide technical assurance of designs prepared by civil, structural and geotechnical subconsultants.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs to ensure civil, structural and electrical requirements are effectively integrated.
- Support constructability reviews, Safety in Design workshops and design risk assessments.
- Develop scopes of work for subconsultants and manage delivery of their design packages.
- Review foundations, equipment support structures, cable trench designs, switchroom modifications, retaining structures and site development works.
- Ensure engineering designs are practical, buildable and aligned with client requirements.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Edison’s civil and structural engineering capability and standards.
- Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineers and project team members.
Construction & Site Support
- Participate in site visits, construction inspections and project reviews.
- Provide construction-phase engineering support and respond to technical queries.
- Assist with commissioning activities and project close-out.
- Monitor design implementation and ensure technical requirements are successfully delivered in the field.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 7+ years’ experience delivering infrastructure, utilities, industrial, transport, energy or similar projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects within a technical or engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of civil and structural design principles, foundations and site development.
- Experience coordinating and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
- An analytical and structured approach to problem-solving and project management.
- Ability to review engineering work and identify technical, constructability and interface risks.
- Proven ability to build and sustain effective client and stakeholder relationships.
- Strong commercial awareness and project delivery capability.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Highly Desirable
- Experience within the electricity, utilities or energy infrastructure sector.
- Experience with substations, power infrastructure or industrial facilities.
- Experience managing external consultants and reviewing consultant deliverables.
- Familiarity with geotechnical investigations and specialised foundation design, including piling and ground improvement solutions.
- Experience participating in construction support and site inspections.
- Consultancy experience.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or working towards chartership.
