Description

We’re looking for a motivated and reliable Streetscape Environmental Worker to join our Wellington team.

This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is happy to get stuck in, and can be flexible across a range of street environmental activities. You’ll be part of our wider Street Environmental Team, helping keep Wellington’s streets, public spaces and council assets clean, safe and well maintained.

About the role

This is an all-rounder position, and your day-to-day work may include supporting with:

  • Sump cleaning and maintenance
  • Road sweeping and supporting our road sweeper operations
  • Emptying litter bins across roads, the CBD, town centres, shopping areas and bus shelters
  • Collection of bagged refuse and recycling
  • Collection and disposal of loose litter from footpaths, kerb and channel areas
  • Manual sweeping of traffic islands and other hard-to-reach areas
  • Removal of leaf fall and other debris from cesspits and street areas
  • Cleaning street furniture and other council assets
  • Removing graffiti from litter bins and other assets as required
  • Reporting damaged or maintenance-required litter bins and council assets
  • Providing support and cover across the wider Street Environmental Team as required

We’re looking for someone comfortable with variety and who understands that priorities can change depending on operational requirements.

Hours of work

Monday to Friday, 11:00 am – 8:30 pm – There may also be opportunities for overtime depending on operational requirements.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Hold a current Class 2 driver licence
  • Ideally hold a Class 4 licence, although this is beneficial rather than essential
  • Be flexible and willing to work across a range of Streetscape duties
  • Be physically fit and comfortable completing hands-on, physical work
  • Be reliable, motivated and able to work well as part of a team
  • Have a strong commitment to health and safety
  • Have experience in a similar operational, environmental, civil or maintenance role, or be willing to learn
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
