Description

What sets this opportunity apart

  • Shape real AI solutions for clients who take governance seriously
  • Grow with mentoring, learning budget and a clear path to Senior Consultant

About the Opportunity

Data Domain is a New Zealand data and AI consultancy working with regulated organisations in financial services, telecommunications and government. Our Applied Intelligence practice turns well-governed data into working AI solutions: assistants, agents, predictive models and automations that clients can trust, run and scale.

This is a permanent, full-time Consultant role, reporting to the Practice Director. You will work in small delivery teams alongside senior consultants and architects, based in Auckland Central with hybrid working and client-site time as needed.

This opportunity allows you to:

  • Build and ship LLM solutions on live client engagements
  • Take a solution from proof of concept to production within your first year
  • Grow toward Senior Consultant with mentoring and funded certifications

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and build AI solutions and applications, including retrieval-augmented assistants, document pipelines and tool-using agents
  • Develop and test clean Python for data prep, orchestration, integrations and lightweight apps
  • Integrate AI features with governed data in Snowflake, Databricks and Azure
  • Run evaluations on accuracy, cost and latency, then iterate on the results
  • Implement proofs of concept in production with logging, monitoring and access controls
  • Document your solutions, demo them to client stakeholders and support them once live

About You

You stay steady under pressure, focus on outcomes clients can see, and keep learning and sharing what you know. You build trust with clients, explain trade-offs in plain language and back your teammates, with a healthy scepticism about AI hype.

What You’ll Need to Bring

  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience in software development, AI development, data engineering or a related technical discipline
  • A relevant tertiary qualification at NZQF Level 7 or above
  • Strong Python and SQL, with good Git, testing and code review habits
  • Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs, plus prompting, embeddings and retrieval
  • Familiarity with at least one cloud data platform (Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, AWS or GCP)

Nice to have

  • Experience with agent frameworks and protocols such as MCP, LangGraph or similar.
  • Exposure to Snowflake Cortex, Azure AI Foundry or AWS Bedrock.
  • Classical ML experience (for example classification or churn models with scikit-learn).
  • dbt, Fivetran or other modern data stack tooling.
  • Consulting or client-facing delivery experience.
  • Work in financial services, telco or government, or knowledge of the NZ Privacy Act 2020.
