We’re seeking a warm, organised and people-focused Host to join our team at the Canterbury Cancer Centre. The Centre brings together accommodation, support services, meeting facilities and cancer-focused organisations under one roof. As a Host, you’ll play an important role in ensuring every guest, whānau member, visitor, volunteer and partner organisation feels welcomed, supported and cared for from the moment they arrive. This is a unique opportunity to combine exceptional customer service, administration and facility coordination in a role that makes a genuine difference in people’s lives.

 

Āu Mahi | What You’ll Do

As a welcoming face of the Canterbury Cancer Centre, you’ll work closely with the Hosts and Facilities Manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the Centre while delivering an exceptional guest experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Welcoming guests, whānau and visitors and being the friendly first point of contact for the Centre
  • Managing guest arrivals, including orientating guests to their rooms and facilities
  • Responding to phone, email and in-person enquiries
  • Scheduling accommodation bookings and guest records using our booking software
  • Assisting with function room bookings, event preparation and room set-up
  • Supporting the day-to-day operation of the Centre through administrative and coordination activities

 

Mōhou ake | About You

As someone with strong customer service and administration skills who genuinely enjoys helping others, you’ll bring:

  • Experience in a customer-facing, reception, front-of-house or service role
  • Excellent organisational and administration skills
  • Strong computer literacy and confidence using Microsoft Office applications and booking systems (experience with Canva is advantageous)
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A friendly, empathetic and professional manner
  • The ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people

Ngā Haora Mahi | Work Hours

Based at the Canterbury Cancer Centre in Papanui, this role is 8 hours per week, worked across alternating Friday shifts as follows:

  • Week 1: 7.20am – 3.50pm
  • Week 2: 9.30am – 6.00pm

You’ll work alongside the other Hosts and the wider Facilities team. Flexibility to provide cover during annual leave and other absences would be beneficial.

One Friday you’ll be based at reception, welcoming and assisting guests and visitors to the Centre. The following Friday you’ll support accommodation services, including booking guests in and orientating new arrivals to the facilities.
