Description

Are you looking for the opportunity to own finance for a global business – without the bureaucracy of one?

Arlo’s training management platform is used by customers in over 70 countries, has processed $3B in course transactions, and has helped train more than 7.5 million people. We’re headquartered in Petone, with teams in the UK and Canada, and we’re still small enough that your decisions and your judgment will directly shape how the business runs – working closely with our COO/CFO, not several layers removed from decision-making.

You’ll get the pace and variety that comes with a lean team: this isn’t a role where you specialise in one narrow slice of finance and stay there. You’ll move between the technical (tax compliance, tightening month-end close) and the strategic (shaping budgets, forecasting SaaS metrics, advising on commercial decisions) in the same week – sometimes the same day.

A note on the title: We’re genuinely open on how this role is titled, this is a senior Finance role with accountability and autonomy. We think Financial Controller covers most of what we are looking for but we are open to suggestions, while keeping the title consistent with other senior roles at Arlo. What matters more to us is finding the right person for the scope of the job above. If you’re a strong fit on experience but unsure about the title, we’d still love to hear from you.

This is a role with real scope to shape how finance operates at Arlo, not just run what’s already built.

What you’ll do

  • Own financial operations end-to-end — accounts payable/receivable, payroll compliance, balance sheet reconciliations, and the month-end and annual close, across our New Zealand, UK and Canadian entities.
  • Lead FP&A — build and own budgets, forecasts and scenario planning, track SaaS metrics that matter (ARR, MRR, churn, LTV), and make sure every budget holder in the business has clear, ongoing visibility of where they stand.
  • Manage cash and tax — from 12-week, multi-currency cash flow forecasting to navigating the tax obligations that come with a global customer base (GST, VAT, sales tax) alongside the more familiar payroll and entity-level tax compliance.
  • Drive our finance tech transformation — replace manual, spreadsheet-based processes with modern subscription and billing tooling, and champion smart use of AI and automation across the finance function.
  • Lead a small, capable team — two direct reports, with real scope to develop them and grow the function as we scale.
  • Be a thinking partner to our COO/CFO — contributing financial insight that shapes business strategy, with visibility to our Board and Executive Leadership Team.

We’re looking for

  • SaaS or subscription-business experience is essential — you understand recurring revenue, deferred revenue, and the difference between CAC, CTS, and G&A. You know how a subscription business actually runs, and not just how to close its books.
  • Strong, progressive finance experience — including time spent owning financial operations and reporting at a senior level (Financial Controller, Head of Finance, Senior Finance Manager, or equivalent), ideally reporting into a CFO or COO.
  • A CA, CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • Comfort operating across multiple jurisdictions — New Zealand experience is a must, and exposure to UK, Canadian, USA, Australian or broader international compliance is a strong advantage.
  • A track record of leading (or playing a hands-on part in) a finance systems or tooling transition.
  • The mindset to match our scale: someone equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves on the detail and stepping back to think about direction — this is a role for someone who can pivot between both, not specialise in only one.
