Description
Build Something Extraordinary: Hospital Manager, ARC Wellington
Imagine joining a hospital before its doors open.
Imagine helping choose the team, shape the systems and set the tone for how people work together—then seeing it become a place that patients, clients and referring vets can rely on.
ARC Vets is opening a purpose-built emergency and specialty hospital in Wellington in late 2027.
We’re looking for a Hospital Manager who wants to help establish it from the beginning, working in close partnership with our Wellington Clinical Director.
This is an opportunity to build a hospital with both local ownership and the support of an established group behind you.
Why This Role Is Different
Opening a hospital takes more than a great building and excellent equipment. It takes people who can bring a team together, solve practical problems and create ways of working that hold up when things get busy.
You’ll be part of the establishment phase, helping prepare the hospital for opening. As the team grows, you’ll lead its nursing, client service and veterinary support functions, working alongside the Clinical Director to create a connected hospital where clinical and operational decisions support one another.
We’re happy to consider candidates who would be available to start around mid-2027, giving you time to be involved in the lead-up to opening.
You’ll have a genuine voice in how ARC Wellington takes shape. You’ll also have colleagues across our Auckland hospitals to share their experience, systems and support.
What You’ll Be Doing
Before opening, you’ll help with recruitment, onboarding, workflows, equipment readiness and the many details that make a new hospital work well from day one.
Once the hospital opens, you’ll lead day-to-day operations, including:
- Supporting team leaders and helping people grow in their roles
- Planning staffing and rosters across services
- Keeping patient care, client service and communication flowing across teams
- Maintaining high standards of nursing care, patient safety and record keeping
- Working with the Clinical Director to identify challenges early and make thoughtful improvements
- Building strong relationships with referring veterinarians and making it easy for them to refer to ARC
Some days will be about planning ahead. Others will call for calm decisions in the middle of a busy hospital. You’ll need to enjoy both.
Who We’re Looking For
We envisage the successful candidate bringing a background in veterinary nursing, along with relevant leadership experience—ideally in a specialist referral and/or high-quality emergency setting. We’re also open to people from other backgrounds who have the leadership skills and operational experience to help build and run a hospital like this.
Whatever your path, you understand that good hospital operations are about more than keeping a roster filled. They’re about giving people the clarity, resources and support to care well for patients and one another.
You communicate openly, follow through on decisions and stay steady when priorities change. You’re comfortable bringing different disciplines together and willing to roll up your sleeves as a new hospital finds its feet.
Why ARC?
ARC Vets is an independent New Zealand emergency and specialty hospital group. Our two Auckland hospitals bring together specialists, emergency clinicians, nurses and support teams who share a commitment to excellent care and genuine collaboration.
Our values are straightforward: we are one team, we do right by our patients, we value growth, we take ownership and we make referrals easy.
Because we’re independent, ideas can be heard and decisions can be made close to the work. At ARC Wellington, you’ll have the opportunity to put those values into practice while helping build something new.
Why Wellington?
For candidates elsewhere in New Zealand or overseas, Wellington offers the chance to make a meaningful career move and a change of lifestyle. It’s a compact, creative city with a strong sense of community, a lively food and arts scene, and coastline and walking tracks close at hand.
We welcome applications from experienced leaders based locally, across New Zealand and internationally. If a move to Wellington is part of your thinking, we’d be pleased to talk with you about the opportunity.
What’s Next?
If you’d like to help establish a hospital, lead a team you’re proud of and work alongside a Clinical Director who shares responsibility for getting it right, we’d love to hear from you.
Submit your CV and tell us what draws you to ARC Wellington. Applications close 15th November 2026.
