ARE YOU READY TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN YOUR ENGINEERING CAREER?

We’re looking for two talented Process Engineers—one senior and one intermediate—to join our team at Apex Water.

Whether you’re an experienced leader in process design or an engineer ready to take on more responsibility, this is your opportunity to work across diverse projects in the water and wastewater sectors, making a real impact for our clients and communities.

Apex Water specialises in the design and construction of water and wastewater treatment plants. Through our design, build, installation and commissioning capabilities, we help New Zealand grow sustainably while protecting the environment for future generations. Our approach brings projects together through one point of accountability, working with some of New Zealand’s most well-known companies across the municipal, dairy, food and beverage sectors.

The success of Apex Water is its people! We value trustworthiness, initiative and a practical “can do” attitude. Our close-knit team shares knowledge, supports one another and takes pride in delivering quality work. Guided by our values—Bold, Passionate, Trustworthy and Protect what matters—we welcome fresh ideas, follow through on our commitments and look after our people and the environment. We enjoy working together and having fun along the way.

Both roles are full-time and permanent. We welcome candidates based in either Auckland or Christchurch. Occasional travel to project sites is required.

The successful applicants will:

Senior Process Engineer

  • Provide technical leadership, design review, mentoring and support to other engineers.
  • Coordinate process engineering inputs across multidisciplinary teams and multiple projects.
  • Work closely with management and project teams to shape practical solutions that meet client objectives.
  • Collaborate with construction and commissioning teams to resolve technical challenges and deliver successful outcomes.
  • Bring strong technical knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Lead client technical discussions and contribute to project scoping, treatment selection and planning.

Process Engineer

  • Deliver assigned process engineering packages with guidance and technical review from senior engineers.
  • Prepare process calculations, modelling, technical reports, process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Work collaboratively with design, construction and commissioning teams.
  • Participate in client meetings and help translate requirements into practical treatment solutions.
  • Apply and develop your knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment processes.
  • Contribute across the project lifecycle, from pilot trials and concept design through to commissioning and operational support.

We want people who:

  • Hold a degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or an equivalent relevant engineering qualification.
  • Bring relevant professional experience: 10+ years for the Senior Process Engineer or 3+ years for the Process Engineer.
  • Have sound knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment, with experience across both welcomed.
  • Understand the New Zealand Drinking Water Standards and Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules relevant to potable water work, and applicable consent and discharge requirements for wastewater projects.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Take ownership, share knowledge and constructively contribute ideas.
  • Bring a practical commitment to safety, quality and environmental outcomes.
  • Are comfortable undertaking occasional site travel, including working away from home when required.
  • Are passionate about delivering excellent results for clients while enjoying the journey along the way!

What we offer:

  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment that values ideas, initiative and teamwork.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and knowledge sharing.
  • For senior engineers, the opportunity to influence technical decisions and mentor others.
  • For process engineers, support from experienced colleagues as you grow your skills and take on greater responsibility.
