About us
At APD, we don’t just manufacture tanks; we are shaping a better future through innovative, sustainable water and systems solutions. As a proudly New Zealand-owned leader in thermoplastic fabrication and rotational moulding, our purpose is simple: Doing Good from the Ground Up.
We are a fast-growing, medium-sized manufacturer specialising in products that protect the environment while prioritizing easy installation. We are known as solution providers designing and engineering products that meet exact customer requirements, saving time and avoiding problems on-site. Our continued growth is driven by our passion for expanding our product range and the diverse markets we serve.
About the role
As our Logistics Manager, you will take full ownership of driving end-to-end supply chain efficiency and elevating our warehousing and distribution operations.
We are ready for a step-change in digital transformation and process sophistication. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will lead the selection and rollout of a modern Warehouse Management System (WMS) with barcode tracking, establish real-time inventory visibility, and serve as the vital bridge between Customer Service, Sales, and Production. You aren’t just keeping things moving; you are optimising the supply chain to ensure seamless delivery to our customers!
This is a key leadership role responsible for stores management, yard operations, procurement, and specialised over-dimensional freight, while fostering a high-performing, service-oriented culture across your team.
Key responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the oversight, efficiency, and alignment of our end-to-end supply chain and warehousing operations, including:
- Supply chain & freight leadership: drive distribution performance, oversee inwards/outwards goods, manage transport partnerships, and coordinate specialised, over-dimensional HIAB logistics and site access
- Digital transformation & WMS: lead the selection, testing, and rollout of a modern Warehouse Management System (including barcode tracking) to achieve real-time stock visibility and eliminate inventory audit discrepancies
- Production & stores integration: develop a seamless operational link between manufacturing and warehousing, ensuring the timely, efficient delivery of raw materials to the production line and the systematic removal and staging of finished goods to prevent production bottlenecks
- Stores & yard management: maintain optimal warehouse layouts and safe outdoor yard storage, optimising traffic flow for mobile plant operations and manufacturing output
- Planning & procurement: oversee raw material acquisition, evaluate vendor performance, eliminate container demurrage/detention risks (including MPI biosecurity compliance), and align supply with dynamic production schedules
- Team leadership: lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team (including the Production Purchaser/Planner and 2 Store persons) with clear KPIs/OKRs and a collaborative culture
- Quality & H&S integration: maintain raw material (resin/polymer) batch and lot traceability for ISO 9001 compliance and drive a safety-first culture using the Teammate App for hazard and non-conformance reporting
What will you bring:
- Proven track record in a Logistics, Warehouse, or Supply Chain Management role, ideally within a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial production environment
- Solid experience with inventory optimisation, procurement workflows, stock-taking frameworks, and ERP/MRP systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead digital workflows and system implementations (WMS rollout and barcode tracking experience is highly desirable)
- Strong understanding of domestic/international freight, container devanning, and handling specialised or over-dimensional freight logistics
- Safety first leadership with a strong commitment to H&S standards around heavy machinery and mobile plant operations
- Collaborative communication and relationship building skills, equally effective partnering with factory floor teams, internal stakeholders, and external freight/vendor partners
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Operations (preferred, but equivalent practical experience is highly valued)
- A practical, solutions-focused mindset with the resilience to navigate changing production demands and supply chain challenges
