The General Counsel (Group) will play a pivotal role in overseeing the legal affairs of our businesses in Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific and Southeast Asia. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with local and international laws, managing legal risks, and providing strategic legal advice to the executive team. The General Counsel will foster a culture of integrity and ethical conduct within the 3 Islands group.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of issues including contracts, compliance, capital markets and regulatory matters
- Oversee the management of all legal risks and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements with the group’s customers, suppliers, capital markets counterparties (both debt and equity)
- Represent the organisation in legal proceedings and liaise with external legal counsel as necessary
- Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and compliance
- Monitor changes in legislation and advise the organisation on potential impacts and necessary adjustments
- Collaborate with other departments to provide legal support for business initiatives and strategies
- Maintain health and safety, regulatory and compliance standards in all activities
About you:
- Tertiary qualified, with a law degree
- 15+ years’ experience, ideally dealing with industrial supply chains, complex compliance-driven industries, international trading and/or capital markets transactions
- Proven ability to lead large teams, complex businesses, implement strategies and continuously self-improve
- Strong understanding of corporate law, contract law, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to provide sound, practical legal advice in a business context
