About Us
Te Manu Toroa (the albatross which glides the ocean) was established in 1997 to provide a Kaupapa Māori model of health care for Māori in the Mai Ngā Kuri-a-Wharei ki Ōtamarākau rohe (Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Katikati and Te Puke – the Western Bay of Plenty). We are a member of Ngā Mataapuna Oranga PHO, a Whānau Ora collective focused on improving whānau health and wellbeing across Tauranga Moana.
Our kaupapa is to strengthen the health and wellbeing of whānau across Tauranga Moana. We work alongside whānau to provide accessible, connected and culturally responsive health and wellbeing services.
Tūāpapa is the foundation for how we work. It guides how we walk alongside whānau, how we support one another as kaimahi, and how we deliver care that recognises the whole person and their journey towards wellbeing.
Pono, Tika and Aroha guide how we show up every day — being genuine and trustworthy, doing what is right, and acting with care and compassion. They shape our relationships with whānau, our communities and each other.
Whānau are at the heart of our mahi. We listen to their voice, recognise their strengths and aspirations, and work alongside them in ways that uphold mana, strengthen wellbeing and support whānau to shape their own journey.
