Summary/Objective
As a Site Operations Manager, you are accountable for the overall performance, reliability, and operational excellence of the site. You will lead a high-performing team responsible for site-wide operations, including uptime, customer SLAs, critical and non-critical facility management, vendor management, security operations, incident management, and financial management. The Site Operations Manager is a people leader and mentor. This role is accountable for the performance and conduct of all Critical Operations employees within their site. The Site Operations Manager fosters an inclusive work environment where all employees feel empowered to perform at their best.
Responsibilities
- Lead and implement a standardized culture of safety across all STACK data centers.
- Ensure 99.999% uptime of critical systems and customer SLAs.
- Own overall site operational performance, including reliability metrics, financial targets, safety performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain site-level CAPEX and OPEX budgets.
- Advise the Director, Critical Operations Japan on the status of their site level preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
- Oversee operations staff in monitoring systems, responding to abnormal conditions, and maintaining critical facilities.
- Develop and enforce technical procedures for maintenance, daily operations, and emergency response (SOPs, MOPs, EOPs).
- Lead incident response, reporting, and root cause analysis in partnership with engineering managers.
- Manage vendor relationships and service contracts.
- Oversee site project execution including scope development, obtaining proposals, through project completion.
- Leading regular team meetings and individual 1:1 sessions.
- Train and mentor staff, including creation of individual training plans.
- Support and participate in operational excellence audits.
- Drive site-level efficiency initiatives, including optimization of design PUE.
- Provide exceptional day-to-day customer service and support.
Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and perform in high-pressure, mission-critical environments.
- Expert understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including but not limited to UPS, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, chillers, CRAHs, CRACs, STSs, ATSs, and pre-action systems.
- Detailed understanding of applicable local codes and standards.
- Expert knowledge and experience in data center trending and analysis, with the ability to rapidly learn and use computer-based site monitoring systems.
- Experienced in the design, construction, and commissioning of critical systems and facilities.
- Ability to coordinate and supervise contractors and vendors performing maintenance in the data center.
- Deep understanding of customer contracts and SLA requirements in line with international and local standards.
- Experienced people manager with exceptional leadership skills.
- Strong team player.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of 4 to 12 direct reports.
Travel Required
- Minimal travel is required for this role.
Required Education and Experience
- 5-7 years of experience in a data center or other mission-critical operations role.
- Knowledge of the data center (hyperscale, enterprise, or colocation) or telecommunications industries.
- 3–5 years of experience administering and managing facility preventive maintenance programs.
- 3–5 years of experience in vendor and project management.
- Business level Japanese proficiency in written and verbal communications.
- Intermediate level of English proficiency in written and verbal communications.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications and other database management software.
- Preferred Education and Experience
- Trade license or certification acquired through technical education or training in electrical or mechanical trades.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Business-level English communication skills.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support.
