Who is the Compendium Group?

The Compendium Group is made up of a Distribution Company based in Australia and New Zealand, and an International Consultancy company (with an office in the UK) that works with International Brands that are innovative, ethical, and global leaders in their channels across the Outdoor, Surf, Sport, Active, Lifestyle and Boutique categories. We currently distribute brands such as Allbirds, Cotopaxi, Hydro Flask, melin, Nocs Provisions, OOFOS and Rumpl in Australia and New Zealand and manage the international business for OOFOS and Feetures.

We have a proven track record in building long-standing partnerships to act as the brand’s custodians outside of their home market. These partnerships are carefully selected based on having a clear cause and a point of difference within their market sector. We offer an outstanding consumer-centric digital, retail and wholesale solution to position our partner brands at the heart of each distribution opportunity across Australasia.

The Group is seeking an experienced and hands-on NZ Marketing Manager to support brand planning and execute brand strategy in market across our brand portfolio in New Zealand. The role coordinates consumer and trade activity across campaigns, partnerships, events, PR, social, wholesale, and retail execution translating agreed brand and commercial priorities into organised high-quality delivery.

This role will work closely with the Co-CEO, the Australia and New Zealand digital marketing function, New Zealand sales, retail, buying, operations, and global brand partners. Success depends on strong organisation, proactive communication, attention to detail, and dependable execution across consumer and trade touchpoints.

Key responsibilities

New Zealand portfolio strategy and planning

  • Own the New Zealand marketing strategy, annual plan and seasonal priorities across the full portfolio aligned with business leadership, global brand direction and commercial goals.
  • Define local audiences, objectives, key stories, product priorities, activity calendars, channels, roles, budgets and success measures for each brand.
  • Prioritise investment and team capacity across brands based on growth opportunity, commercial importance, lifecycle, stock, market relevance and available resources.
  • Lead go-to-market planning for new brands, launches and priority products aligning marketing, sales, digital, retail, wholesale, stock and customer experience.
  • Maintain a rolling twelve-month portfolio calendar and recommend changes when performance, stock, budget or capacity requires priorities to shift.

Brand building partnerships events and PR

  • Build locally relevant brand platforms that grow awareness, credibility, trial advocacy and community connection in New Zealand.
  • Own and grow a portfolio of strategic New Zealand partnerships, confidently building senior external relationships, identifying new opportunities, negotiating partnership arrangements and translating relationships into commercially valuable brand activity.
  • Lead significant partnerships, events and activations end to end – from strategy, business case and negotiation through briefing, operational planning, delivery and post-activity evaluation.
  • Ensure activity protects each brand’s positioning while creating useful content, insight, customer value or commercial impact.
  • Own the operational detail required to deliver high-quality events and activations, including timelines, stakeholders, suppliers, budgets, logistics, approvals and on-the-ground execution.

New Zealand trade marketing

  • Own the New Zealand trade marketing calendar and translate portfolio priorities into clear retailer, wholesale and in-store programmes.
  • Partner with the New Zealand Sales team on account priorities, launches, product education, sell through opportunities and customer specific plans.
  • Lead retailer toolkits, point of sale visual merchandising, training staff, engagement promotions and local activations within approved brand standards.
  • Visit priority accounts and market locations to assess execution, customer response, competitor activity and improvement opportunities.
  • Measure trade activity against distribution sell through, retailer engagement visibility and agreed commercial outcomes.

Integrated digital social and customer planning

  • Partner with the ANZ Digital Social and Customer Growth Manager to translate New Zealand priorities into paid media, ecommerce, CRM, organic social, content and customer growth plans.
  • Provide clear briefs covering the objective, audience, proposition, product timing, assets, local market context, budget and success measures.
  • Set New Zealand priorities for ambassadors, creators, community engagement and user generated content in partnership with the relevant digital and social owners.
  • Use consumer research, customer feedback, social listening, campaign data, sales margin, stock and sell through performance to improve decisions.
  • Respect ANZ functional ownership of platforms, channel standards, governance and specialist execution while remaining accountable for the New Zealand market brief and outcome.

Market execution and portfolio coordination

  • Personally lead priority New Zealand execution across the portfolio with support from the dotted line Coordinators and functional teams.
  • Ensure global and ANZ assets are adapted appropriately for New Zealand customers, retailers, seasons, cultural context and commercial conditions.
  • Build and maintain strong senior relationships with retailers, communities, strategic partners, agencies, creators, event organisers and relevant industry networks, creating a strong pipeline of future opportunities.
  • Create scalable briefs, toolkits, templates and approval processes so multiple brands can be delivered consistently without diluting focus.
  • Travel within New Zealand and to Australia when required for launches, events, retailers, partners, planning and brand meetings.

Budget performance and brand partner communication

  • Build and manage approved New Zealand marketing budgets with accurate forecasting, purchase order discipline and visibility of committed and actual spend.
  • Set measurable objectives and provide concise weekly, monthly and seasonal reporting on results, risks, learning and next actions.
  • Act as the source of truth for New Zealand strategy, calendars, budgets, activity, status, trade programmes and performance.
  • Represent the New Zealand market in seasonal range sales and business planning and maintain credible timely communication with global brand partners.
  • Maintain approved plans, decisions, documentation and reporting in company-controlled systems.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven brand, trade or market marketing experience, ideally within outdoor, adventure, sport, lifestyle, retail, consumer goods or multi-brand distribution. Strong partnerships and events/activation experience is particularly important.
  • Demonstrated ownership of market or portfolio plans, budgets, strategic partnerships, negotiations, events and activations, PR, trade marketing and retailer programmes, with the ability to take initiatives from strategy through to hands-on execution.
  • Experience leading work through a matrix structure with the ability to influence set priorities, coach contributors and resolve competing demands without relying on formal authority.
  • Strong understanding of the New Zealand consumer, retailer and media landscape and the relationship between brand activity and commercial outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of digital, social, ecommerce, CRM, ambassador and customer growth disciplines and the ability to brief specialists effectively.
  • Strong commercial judgement, connecting marketing activity and investment decisions with customer response, traffic, sales, margin, distribution, stock and sell-through.
  • Confident communicator and presenter with strong project management, financial, negotiation and senior stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfort moving between strategy, relationship management, team direction, analysis and practical market execution.
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail and a positive, solutions-focused approach in a growing multi brand environment.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is useful but not essential where equivalent experience is demonstrated.
