JCUVet is North Queensland’s only veterinary teaching hospital, referral and specialist centre. We offer 24/7 emergency and critical care services, advanced diagnostics and expert care for complex medical cases. As a university teaching hospital, we also play a vital role in shaping the future of veterinary care in Australia.

Due to the high standards of teaching and care provided, we boast a state-of-the-art veterinary facility and equipment including advanced anaesthetic monitoring and ventilation equipment, advanced diagnostic imaging equipment including comprehensive ultrasound, digital dental x-ray, video endoscope and a 64 slice CT scanner.

JCUVet employs approximately 70 staff comprising Hospital Director, Business Services Manager, Clinical Support Manager, Veterinarians, Veterinary Nurses, Animal Attendants and a small administrative support team. The team is complimented by locum veterinarians and visiting services including specialists of surgery, dermatology and cardiology.

In their fifth and final year of study, JCU students undergo a program comprising 10 weeks of practical experience at JCUVet involving two-week rotations in each of the key areas; emergency, medicine, anesthesia and general practice. They are taught authentic clinical practice via tutoring, supervision, mentoring and assessment by our experienced team members.
