About Firedoor

Chef owner Lennox Hastie created Firedoor in 2015, and opened our sister venue Gildas in 2022, a transportative Basque-inspired wine bar only, an olive stone’s throw away from Firedoor in Surry Hills. Both restaurants are driven by Lennox’s signature use of simple ingredients and innovative approach to creating unique dining experiences.

Situated in the back streets of Surry Hills, Firedoor showcases the natural beauty of wood fired cooking, creating a seasonally-driven menu daily. The Firedoor kitchen is open-plan, allows guests a clear view of the action which unfolds in the kitchen. It is important for us to invite diners into our world and show them how simple cooking can be, and how good ingredients can become great ingredients when grilled over a wood fire. We don’t offer fine dining and we are not entirely casual either, choosing to strike a balance somewhere between the two.
