About the Role
This is a Scientist position within Pathlab Bay of Plenty’s Histology service, contributing directly to the preparation and delivery of high-quality histological specimens for diagnostic assessment.
As a Histology Scientist, you will be involved all areas of the histology workflow, including specimen accessioning, specimen grossing, specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, immunohistochemistry, and quality control, working in accordance with established laboratory procedures and quality standards.
You will be part of a skilled and supportive team where consistency, accuracy, and shared responsibility are genuinely valued.
This role offers the opportunity to develop deep expertise in histology within an established diagnostic service that values quality, collaboration, professional growth, and work-life balance. You will demonstrate:
- Relevant qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science (Histology) and registration with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council, or eligibility for registration
- Practical experience in routine histology techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining
- A strong understanding of laboratory quality systems, documentation, and safe work practices
- Careful attention to detail and a consistent, reliable approach to technical work
- The ability to work autonomously while contributing positively within a team environment
- Clear communication skills and a professional approach to collaboration, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement
