Commercial Trials and Studies Officer – Commercial Team, Waikato 6-Month Fixed Term/Secondment

We are seeking expressions of interest for the role of Commercial Trials and Studies Officer, a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of laboratory science, research, validation, and commercial development. Working within the Immunology and Commercial teams, this role will help evaluate and implement new testing opportunities, support validation studies, and contribute to the development of innovative diagnostic services.
This position offers the chance to combine your scientific expertise with project work, data analysis, and service development, helping Pathlab identify and deliver new commercial opportunities that support both patients and healthcare providers.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Commercial Trials and Studies Officer, you will:
- Assist with the development, coordination, and delivery of validation studies, trials, and commercial development projects.
- Develop study protocols, analyse trial data, and produce reports containing findings and recommendations.
- Support the introduction of new testing pathways, including self-collection services and emerging diagnostic opportunities.
- Undertake capillary sample collection and maintain accurate study and trial documentation.
- Contribute to quality assurance, validation, accreditation, and procedural development activities.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory, commercial, and clinical stakeholders to help bring new opportunities from concept to implementation.

Essential Requirements
- Appropriate Medical Laboratory Science degree.
- Current Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand registration and practising certificate (MLS).
- Practical experience operating and troubleshooting laboratory analysers and equipment.
- Broad clinical knowledge of medical laboratory science.
- Strong understanding of quality systems, laboratory accreditation requirements, IQC, and EQA processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative, self-management, and IT capability.
Desirable Experience
- Practical laboratory experience in research, development, validation studies, or commercial projects.
- Experience with data analysis and report writing.
