The New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa is the professional body for barristers and solicitors in New Zealand. The Law Society regulates all lawyers practising in New Zealand and is the membership organisation for practising lawyers. With 13 branch offices throughout the country, the Law Society is the Kaitiaki (guardian) of the practise of law in Aotearoa New Zealand and the consumers of legal services.
About the role
The Senior Registry Advisor works within the Professional Standards Registry Team, providing advice and analysis on “non-standard” applications and working closely with the Team Leader Registry to ensure that Law Society decision makers are provided with robust, evidence-based advice on regulatory applications. The role manages and progresses non-standard regulatory applications, including preparing recommendation and decision papers and acting as a contact with applicants, legal practitioners and other stakeholders. The Senior Registry Advisor ensures non-standard regulatory applications are progressed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with statutory requirements, while supporting continuous improvement and the effectiveness of the Law Society’s Registry functions.
This is a part-time role working 18.75 hours per week (days of work to be negotiated).
Our ideal applicant will have:
- A tertiary qualification in law, public administration, business administration, or a related discipline; or significant relevant experience.
- At least 5 years relevant work experience in a legal, regulatory, governance or committee environment.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and governance processes.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 and associated regulatory framework, or the ability to acquire this knowledge quickly.
- Significant experience supporting boards, committees, tribunals or decision-making bodies.
- Experience drafting formal correspondence, reports, meeting minutes and decisions.
- Experience analysing complex information and preparing concise recommendations.
- Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent written communication skills, including drafting decisions, memoranda and reports.
- Strong verbal communication and relationship management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and workload management skills.
- Sound judgement, discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
