About BC Invest

BC Invest is a fast-growing diversified financial services group and non-bank mortgage lender, offering a combination of personal and financial services, including mortgage lending and asset management services.

The Company specialises in domestic mortgages to Australian resident borrowers for properties in Australia and in non-resident mortgages for properties in Australia and the UK. It currently provides Australian mortgages to over 8,000 resident and non-resident borrowers. In 2023, the Company expanded with the acquisition of Mortgageport, a non-bank lender and mortgage manager with a rich history in Australia, which since its founding in 1998 has provided home loans worth A$4.5 billion to over 15,000 customers. Mortgageport’s long-term success is its customer-centric approach and its focus on providing home loans to high-quality borrowers.

Since incorporation in 2015, BC Invest has grown to around 180 staff in 11 offices operating across Australia, United Kingdom, Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Greater China and Vietnam. In Australia, BC Invest has two offices, Sydney and Melbourne.

We spoke with Simone Ngam, HR Manager at BC Invest, about their experience with Employment Hero and how it has supported them thus far.

The challenge…

Given extensive employee mobility within the organization and the presence of multiple global offices, maintaining Group-wide consistent, transparent and two-way HR related communications posed a significant challenge. The reliance on paper-based processes for goal setting and performance reviews added a manual and labor-intensive aspect to operations. Employees also had no real time visibility over their performance or the achievements and milestones of the Group.

To resolve these problems, BC Invest decided to digitalise their HR processes by implementing Employment Hero.

A central source of truth

With Employment Hero being one central database, allowing real time updates to be automatically synchronised across the platform, Simone’s team are working smarter, not harder.

Communicating updates became easier, and she can now provide full transparency on any people movements across the business — “regardless of whether there’s a new joiner or leaver, or internal movement within the company, with a click of a button it’s announced in Employment Hero and everyone is aware of it. The platform also features a real-time organizational chart that is accessible to everyone, significantly enhancing the overall employee experience.”

Employees love how it helps them reach their goals

By transitioning from paper-based processes to a cloud-based platform, employees at BC Invest are now able to document all their goals and performance reviews digitally. The structured, built-in feedback features like 1:1s, OKRs, and more in our performance management software provides them with a solid development framework.

More importantly, ‌employees approve of the changes too. As mentioned by Simone, “They can check it out any time, anywhere they want — it’s very straightforward and clear cut, and employees love it.”

Simone also finds the Custom Survey function particularly valuable in providing her team with insightful data. It enables them to keep a pulse on the company by doing regular check-ins. “We use the survey function to carry out employee engagement surveys — it helps us gather feedback, identify gaps and areas of improvement, as well highlight our wins. This valuable information empowers us to enhance employee retention strategies.”
