According to the Malaysia Economy Digital Blueprint (MDEB), artificial intelligence (AI) technology is expected to increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by up to 26% in the next decade.

It’s no surprise then, that the Malaysian government is keen to drive digital transformation — to make sure that Malaysia doesn’t lose out in the increasingly competitive global economy, and emerges as a digitally-driven, high-income nation and regional leader instead.

Apart from the MDEB mentioned above, the government has also set out another framework for the incorporation of AI in numerous sectors of the economy — the Malaysia Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2021-2025 (AI-Rmap). It’s crystal clear that the government is keen to support businesses in AI use, but some of the key challenges to overcome include a lack of talent or expertise and funding.
