With so much going on, Mintable was evolving fast. The team knew it was time to improve company processes to support its growth. That’s where Employment Hero came in. We spoke with Malvin Rosales, the HR Manager at Mintable, about the team’s experience with Employment Hero and how it has supported them thus far.
The challenge
As a digital business in a fast-paced industry, Mintable needed an intuitive HR and payroll system that would help it keep up with all the new developments. The team also needed an all-in-one system to minimise any friction in their people management processes.
Before Employment Hero, Mintable previously engaged a third party service to manage their HR and payroll. While all of its processes were hosted on a single platform, the team didn’t have direct control over the processes and found it difficult and restrictive to work with.
They wanted a comprehensive software solution that would keep their processes consolidated onto one platform, but also give them the full control and autonomy needed to manage these processes well. They were also looking for a leave system that could do accrued leave instead of allocating leave entitlements as a lump sum.
Solutions
Streamlined payroll processes
Previously, when Mintable employees submitted expense claims, Malvin would not be able to view anything on their system until the 22nd of each month. If an employee made a mistake in their expense submission, Malvin wouldn’t be able to view it and get it rectified – she could only check all expense submissions at the end of the month and inform her employees after. If her team members couldn’t resubmit the expense in time, Malvin wouldn’t be able to include the claim in that month’s payroll.
With Mintable’s small team, Malvin was ready to run payroll manually herself if it meant that she could come off their previous system. If she did payroll manually, she would have to spend anywhere from half a day to a full day on a pay run. Thankfully, with Employment Hero’s automated payroll platform, she only has to spend one to two hours on payroll now.
A user-friendly experience

“I think it doesn’t require a really smart or intelligent person to understand the system – it’s really simple. The platform is also really comprehensive.”

When Mintable’s team had to migrate to Employment Hero’s HR and payroll platform, they only had two months to do so. With customer experience and implementation team support, they managed to complete their migration within one month – giving them a whole extra month to allocate to other business pursuits.
Malvin also loved that it was easy to introduce the new system to her colleagues, thanks to robust support and training from the Employment Hero implementations teams.
“The team is always ready to answer my questions. Because the training I got from Employment Hero was really thorough, I was able to answer the questions my team had when we were switching over to the platform.”

On Mintable’s previous HR and payroll management system, not only did the team have to pay for the software, they also had to pay an agency to help them manage the software. “Employment Hero is comparatively cheap compared to other established platforms. From a functional perspective, the features are not very much different. However, the pricing is very reasonable.”

While Malvin’s colleagues use the expense and leave features in Employment Hero the most, she loves that the payroll process is so much easier. She can now dedicate more time to other areas that need her attention, such as hiring the best people for Mintable and improving business processes.
“Especially during this period, we are expanding, and I have lots of interviews going on every day. I have lots of CVs to review, and because of the time that I have freed from doing my payroll and how easy the payroll system is now, I can deploy a lot more of my time towards urgent matters.”
