About the role
This role is all about enhancing the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of wāhine who are in Christchurch Womens Prison. The intentions of the role is fostering cultural connection, and empowering our wāhine to lead healthier, more resilient lives.
As a Rongoā Practitioner, you will deliver Rongoā Māori practices that enhance wāhine well-being. You’ll develop holistic healing plans, support cultural empowerment, and educate wāhine on the benefits of traditional Māori practices.
The role works within the Manawai Mai service team, supports group facilitation and the blending of our programme content to ensure wāhine access the full intent of the brief intervention programme.
About the organisation’s
He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Māori organisation who continue to support individuals and the community for over 30 years. He Waka Tapu works to increase the health and wellbeing of Whānau and communities in Waitaha by providing various preventative and intervention services and programmes.
Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa is a national not-for-profit organisation providing a wide range of health, addiction, social, housing and employment support services. We are committed to Māori succeeding as Māori, privileging lived experience, and supporting thriving Pasifika peoples.

Skills and experience
- Experience working with Māori and within a Kaupapa Māori environment.
- Experienced practitioner in Rongoā.
- Experience providing Mirimiri, Komiri, Karakia and other Rongoā practices.
- Experience in establishing effective working relationships with individuals, their Whānau and other key stakeholders.
- Current Full Driver’s licence.
