🔑 About The Job
The Legal team at Omaze is responsible for protecting the company’s interests by providing long-term strategic direction and day-to-day operational support.
Omaze is seeking an experienced and dynamic Legal Director to lead its UK legal function, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer. The successful candidate will act as a strategic partner to the UK management team and be responsible for the effective oversight of all legal risks and obligations for the UK business. The Legal Director will be part of a Legal team providing support to Omaze globally and across multiple geographies, which means collaboration, strategic thinking, and a willingness to jump into the details are all essential parts of the role.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage and implement the legal strategy for Omaze UK, aligning with the company’s overall business goals and risk tolerances.
- Provide strategic legal advice to UK management and other senior executives on a range of matters related to the UK business, in particular regarding new products, property law, commercial agreements, and customer support.
- Ensure preparedness for and compliance with all new and existing relevant laws and regulations for the UK business.
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with Omaze UK’s operations.
- Oversee, and where needed engage directly in, the review, drafting, editing and negotiation of all Omaze UK commercial agreements, vendor agreements, residential property purchase agreements and charity partnership agreements.
- Oversee, and where needed engage directly in, the review and legal management of all marketing materials, website copy, promotional rules, and consumer communications.
- Provide strategic legal support and guidance to the Property and Partnership teams to help ensure seamless execution of all property, prizing, and charity workstreams.
- Support Omaze’s global Data Protection function in collaboration with Omaze’s Data Protection Officer.
- Manage relationships and spend with UK external legal counsel and other stakeholders, including responsibility for budget management.
- Monitor and respond to changes in legislation and regulatory requirements affecting the UK business.
- Oversee the governance of Omaze UK’s corporate entities, including relevant corporate controls.
- Assist with group level corporate governance work, intellectual property management, and general group strategy, where needed.
- Provide additional needed legal support for the business as part of a small Legal team committed to excellent service where every day is different than the last.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- A qualified lawyer in the UK with 7+ years of experience working in an internationally/nationally recognised law firm and/or in-house legal department
- Proven experience in a senior in house legal B2C role, ideally within the UK
- Law degree
- Excellent formal and informal leadership and team management skills
- Extensive legal experience related to commercial agreements and negotiations, customer support, product development, marketing, and brand protection
- Unmatched organisational skills and unyielding attention to detail
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities who plans for the entire course of a workstream, not just the immediate tasks at hand
- Extreme multi-tasker
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to collaborate exceptionally with cross-functional partners
- Willingness to learn other practice areas and to jump into the work needed to solve whole issues facing the business rather than just explaining the law
- Willingness to do the tedious, detailed-oriented legal work that keeps Omaze running and can independently exercise sound judgement with minimal supervision
- Experience with property law, charity laws, prize draws, gaming a plus
