Chef – Full-Time Permanent

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand

Strawberry Fare is a much-loved Christchurch institution, famous for our desserts and known for delivering food that keeps guests coming back. We’re proud of our team, our standards, and the friendly atmosphere we create both in the kitchen and out front.

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Chef to join our kitchen team on a permanent, full-time basis, with a minimum of 30 hours guaranteed each week.

About the Role

This is a hands-on position where you’ll play an important part in maintaining the quality and consistency Strawberry Fare is known for. Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

Preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes to a consistently high standard, following our recipes and guidelines
Helping plan menus and specials, and contributing new ideas to keep things fresh and exciting
Monitoring food quality throughout preparation and service
Estimating food and labour costs and ordering supplies to support efficient kitchen operations
Freezing and preserving food when needed to reduce waste and maintain quality
Supporting, training, and mentoring kitchen staff when required
Demonstrating cooking techniques and sharing best practice with the team
Working closely with managers, chefs, and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service
Making sure food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards are always met

What We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

At least 3 years’ relevant experience working as a Chef
A solid understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
Pride in your presentation and personal hygiene
A positive, organised approach with good attention to detail
The ability to stay calm and focused in a busy kitchen
Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays as part of a roster
A team-focused attitude with good communication skills

Hours & Pay

Permanent full-time position
30–45 hours per week, rostered
Hourly rate: $25.00 – $35.00, depending on skills and experience
All pay and conditions are in line with New Zealand employment legislation
